Discover the Power of Bullet Journals
January 8th from 5-7pmLocation: Wolf & Wren, 331 Main, Longmont COIntroduction to Bullet Journaling
In the first part of the workshop, I will discuss how I got into bullet journaling, my approach to using my journal, how I keep it good for my mental health, as well as reviewing tools and resources that are helpful for building a journaling practice. I will also address the question: “Couldn’t I just buy a planner?” and show you why creating your own journal can be much more beneficial.Hands-On Journaling Exercises
The rest of the workshop will be all about putting theory into practice with hands-on exercises focused on providing you with a kick start to your journal practice or expanding on what you’re already doing. I will demonstrate different approaches I’ve found useful in my 12+ years of journaling on top of 27+ years of being a sketchbook junkie.Materials Needed:
- Writing instrument(s) of your choice. (Note: I use a combination of fountain pen and mechanical pencil in my journal because I make mistakes and erase a lot.)
- A journal of some kind. (Note: I prefer dot grid paper in my bullet journal approach because it provides a great foundation for building entry templates, but bring what you have or what you like using. I will have dot grid
journals I make available for purchase.
- Ruler or straight edge—helpful but not required. (I’ll even show you how you can quickly make a straight edge when you’re in a pinch.)
Optional Material Fee:
Along with Wolf + Wren’s wonderful selection of notebooks and journals, I will have several of my handmade journals available for purchase.
Instructor: Ian NordeckIan T. Nordeck is a creative director and designer with over 20 years of experience shaping visual narratives and crafting meaningful design solutions. A lifelong artist, his creative journey began in childhood—sketching worlds for his imagination to explore—and was later enriched by a diverse path, from serving as a military policeman in the Marine Corps to earning a BFA in Design with an emphasis in Creative Writing from the Kansas City Art Institute.
With a holistic approach to design, Ian blends graphic design, industrial design, and illustration, always seeking to push beyond the obvious and capture deeper meaning. Teaching has become a natural extension of his creative work, as he finds joy in guiding others through the artistic process, sharing his experience, and inspiring new ways of thinking. Now, through workshops spanning printmaking, drawing, bookmaking, and bullet journaling, he fosters an engaging, hands-on environment where creativity thrives and participants can explore the dynamic intersection of artistry, storytelling, and craftsmanship.
